First round of chemo/radiation completed!

Today is a happy day...Curt went to his last radiation treatment, and finished his first round of chemotherapy! These last six weeks have been far from easy, and we are extremely grateful and excited to have come through it to the other side! Curt has gained a very welcome 20 pounds since he came home from the hospital (for the third time) seven weeks ago. Fatigue has been an ever-present factor, but the nausea for the most part never got to the point of not being able to keep food down. Thank you, Lord!

We are looking forward now to a month's break in treatment, and then he will begin monthly rounds of chemotherapy (5 days on, 23 days off). He is following the normal protocol for this type of cancer.

Curt thankfully has not been experiencing any headaches, and we are continuing to pray for God's mercy and healing. We're also praying for this next month to be healthy and restorative, for his body to continue to gain strength, and for his blood levels to all return to normal (from the negative effects of the chemo).

Thank you to everyone for the incredible covering of prayer you have provided...we know it has greatly helped to sustain us through those moments of discouragement and frustration we've encountered during these last few months. God bless you guys!!

  4. Hey Curt,

I read your update the other day but didn't post anything. Then I remembered talking to people, after I finished my treatment, who told me how they read our blog all the time, but they never wrote anything. I always liked hearing from people, but I'm weird that way I guess. Anyway brother, we are praying for you and your family daily. I actually have a post it note on my computer at work with your name on it to remind me. Hope things are well today. A hui hou!

  5. Dear Curt,

Lynn and I have been praying every day for your miracle. I'm a believer, and that's the only thing that keeps me going in this world. I saw your mom yesterday, precious women of God. Mom's are amazing warriors when it comes to our children.....I can testify to that! We don't give up or give in! Never!

    Believing,

    Mele & Ohana

  6. Hi Curt and Patti,
So happy to read these progress reports.
Just to let you know you have been in my thoughts and prayers which will continue for ongoing recovery. Pray you are quickly regaining your strength and can enjoy all those things you like to do----and that round two will be a breeze.
    With love for you both,

  7. Curt thank you for all of your prayers for me and my daughter. You were on my mind this morning, so I looked up your blog. I am so thankful that you are doing better. I have prayed that God will bless you for your extrodinary compassion towards me and my daughter having gone through our tremendous tragedy. We are hanging on. And I just wanted to say thank you for the words of encouragement, and for showing me that God has a purpose in all of our sufferings. I guess you know this personally. I am so much closer to God for it! Somehow tragedies, and sufferring actually bring us closer and to a more 'secure' love in Jesus. It's beyond understanding how He transforms us to a Higher level...just when we think we can't do any more for Him, much less ourselfves.
I am truly thankful for your entire family. They have touched me and my daughters life. We were such happy people in Kihei Hope Chapel...and now, we are alone with God still carrying us through life. I can but only tremble at how amazing He is to carry us through everything, and keep us safe, and together. He provides for us using people (angels) from out of nowhere. . .all just when we think...this is it, we are done. LOL! Now, I know we are just a puzzle peace in His huge plan...and then, I smile, trickle a tear, and tremble at God's Awesomeness.
God Bless you. And I mean it. So glad that I checked on you.
    Love in Christ,
    Tamara and Ava Joy Johnson
