Friday update

Hi Everyone,

We’ve had a busy morning here at the hospital, as usual. Lots of visits from the nurses, and the surgeon came by and removed the drain from Curt’s abdomen (ouch!!). Yesterday he said he wanted to keep him another day to make sure the drain was absolutely not needed any longer, and that he would probably be going home on Saturday.) Today he said it still looks like Saturday, but the nurses say you never know until he actually writes the discharge orders to spring him from the hospital. Curt can’t wait to get home to his own bed!

He’s slowly getting stronger every day, and he can walk laps now rather than just up and down the hall in the early morning. It will still be a process of regaining weight and strength…it is amazing how much weight and muscle tone you lose in just three weeks of lying in bed. We figured out that two of those weeks were in a state of total fasting…no food, and only a few days with water or clear liquids. He lived on IV saline solution!

We’ve been bringing in homemade fruit smoothies and good nutritious meals to help fatten him up. As comfortable as this room is, and as helpful as the nurses are, the hospital food is still…well, just hospital food!!

We’ll keep you posted with any new developments…

Take care,
Patti

  1. Thanks for the update Patti. I visit this blog everyday and when I do I say a prayer for Curt and your whole family.

Keep getting strong Curt! Aside from smoothies, can you drink Ovaltine Milk? Remember those? I still drink Ovaltine up to this day. It's my "comfort drink" :)

  4. Dear Curt and Patti and Family,
So happy to hear that Curt will be home soon. The food is better and the bed is better and it's just the best place to gain strength and encouragement. There's no better medicine than hearth and home. Praying comfort, hope and healing over you all. And wishing Patti a Happy Mother's Day tomorrow.
    Much love, Karen

  5. This is Lu here, not Bill, but I want to be a part of Curt's blog too. It's Saturday morning and we are praying that Curt gets to go home today. That would be a great Mother's Day gift for Patti ... to have the love of her life home. I know that love and support at home, along with his own bed, is just what the Kepler docs would want for Curt. :)
Love and hugs, Lu and Bill

  6. Thank you so much for the updates. I have not stopped praying since I heard of Curt's illness--and I will not stop.

Patti, I am praying for you, too. As a 'fellow wife' I know that this is not/cannot be easy for you.

    Love, thoughts, and prayers,

    Trisha Garcia

  7. Good Morning Curt and Patti
So good to hear of Curt's progress and that he will get to go home today!
Thank you for the up-dates Patti, they sure do help on how we can specifically pray. John misses his golf buddy, he can't wait to be together with Curt again on the course! I think I might just join you again your first day back,!That was still, to this day, my best game, I know it had to be because YOU Curt were there! Miss you so much and we are praying you have a quick recovery! *HUGS* to you all
